Maenad. I had to look it up because I have never heard of the word, this is what I found about Maenad...
an unnaturally excited or distraught woman, female follower of the Greek god of wine, Dionysus. The word maenad comes from the Greek maenades, meaning “mad” or “demented.” During the orgiastic rites of Dionysus, maenads roamed the mountains and forests performing frenzied, ecstatic dances and were believed to be possessed by the god. While under his influence they were supposed to have unusual strength, including the ability to tear animals or people to pieces (the fate met by the mythical hero and poet Orpheus). In Roman religion, Dionysus’s counterpart was Bacchus, and his female followers were called bacchantes.
So how does this effect us....When the Maenad comes to you, she is letting you know that you need to express your wildness in a safe and protected place, instead of a unsafe place. Everyone of us time to time get a urge to be free, wild, and to let loose...cast off the chains and find expression in dancing, sex, parties, and intoxication....and she comes to you now, this creature who will devour you if you do not find a way to safely express these urges. This is when addiction can find you. This is when over-indigence can stake it's claim on your soul through your physical form. This maenad is watching you now, eyes brimming with poison, and ready to infect you, if you do not begin to rediscover the beautiful madness of life in your own way. If you do not now begin to have some dance, some joy, some loss of the self-consciousness you battle with each day, she will find you, and her leaves will poison you, even as they delight you. It is time to drink the nectar of love making, wine, laughter to the point where your belly hurts...it is time.
It is safe for you to give way to feelings of intense bliss and happiness, even excitement. Feeling deeply and allowing yourself to be swept up in the rapture is a beautiful thing for you to experience at this time! It is safe to let this happen under the current circumstances.
Keeping yourself on a tight leash that your repressions rule you, and are therefore expressed in unhealthy ways.
So let loose this weekend, embrace the madness of life, find a safe place, and find safe people to let it out.
All My Love,
